anniversaries in 2009
2009 marks the:
500th anniversary of john calvin's birth
400th anniversary of the baptist movement
60th anniversary of kay poh road baptist church (kprbc)
10th anniversary of kay poh road baptist kindergarten
i didn't choose to go to kprbc. growing up, i simply followed my parents to kprbc every sunday (sometimes against my will). when i decided to get baptised in 2006, i simply got baptised in kprbc because there was no particular reason for me to get baptised anywhere else.
[for that matter, my parents - who met each other in kprbc - simply started coming to kprbc because it was near where each of them was staying back then. ironically, they moved further away from kprbc (geographically speaking) when they got married.]
having said that, it just so happens that i tend to agree with most of what kprbc teaches - and most of baptist theology in general. incidentally, while i'm back in singapore this summer i'm attending a 7-week course on baptist distinctives in the 21st century, conducted by baptist theological seminary on tue nights.
again, that the first lesson was the week after i got back to singapore and the last lesson will be two weeks before i fly back to york is not coincidence, but providence.
i thank God for sustaining kprbc over the past 60 years and pray that He would continue to do so in the years to come. the best is yet to be!
"Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labour in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain." - Psalm 127:1 (NIV)
"The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain." - 1 Corinthians 15:56-58 (NIV)
O God, our help in ages past
Our hope for years to come
Our shelter from the stormy blast
And our eternal home
Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure
Sufficient is Thine arm alone
And our defence is sure
Before the hills in order stood
Or earth received her frame
From everlasting Thou art God
To endless years the same
O God, our help in ages past
Our hope for years to come
Be Thou our guard while troubles last
And our eternal home
